Frequently Asked Questions:
- What do the kids wear? Shorts, T-shirts, sneakers (or rubber cleats for football). If your player chose to purchase a SORO shirt, they should be wearing that. It does get hot on the field; light clothing is preferred and SPF is recommended.
- Can the kids bring their own water bottles? Yes, water, Gatorade and snacks will also be available at the concession stand.
- Will the concession stand be open? Yes, the concession stand will offer hotdogs, popcorn, Slush Puppies, cold drinks, and other snacks.
- Is there contact in flag football? No, there may be some accidental contact but SORO is meant to be non-contact and fun for all. Mouthpieces are never a bad idea but are not required. Rules will be enforced to promote safe play.
- Who are the coaches? Coaches are athletes from our Somersworth High School football and cheer teams donating their time in the off season to improve the quality of football and cheering for the youth of our community. Somersworth High School and Youth Football League coaches will be coaching flag as well.
- Is there anything I can do to help? Stay at the field, support your child and enjoy watching all the fun. Volunteers may be needed in the concession stand or to help set up and break down each day. Each player will also be given cash calendars to sell to help raise money for the program and keep registration costs at a minimum.
- If I know somebody that wants to play but they haven't signed up yet can they still sign up? Yes- newcomers are welcomed to register at any time.
- What do I do when I show up for the first session? Check in at the registration desk, pay fee if you need to, and ensure contact information is correct. Once in the gate, your son or daughter can get warmed up by playing catch on the field or stretching with the cheerleadersnear the stage. Parents are welcomed to be on the field during the warm up. Relax and enjoy.
- Where do we play? The Somersworth High School football field. Located directly in front of Somersworth High School.
- What if it rains? If there is inclement weather flag football and cheering may be cancelled. The latest information for SORO will be posted to our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SOROFlag/) as well as our SportsYou page. Cancelled sessions will not be made up.
- If my son / daughter misses a session because of a vacation is that okay? Absolutely. It's expected that several of our players will be busy over their summer vacations.
